MY NAME IS VELEN...LIKE "HELEN" BUT WITH A "V"

MY NAME IS VELEN...LIKE "HELEN" BUT WITH A "V"

I still remember my first digital camera. It was a brick. Nothing fancy, but it got the job done. Ever since I was given that little moment-capturing machine, I was hooked.

Born in Ottawa, Canada, my family moved to Tucson when I was 10 years old. After studying Architecture at the University of Arizona - with a few different and slightly improved cameras by my side each step of the way (that was before phone cameras) - I was hired to be a full time team member at the custom residential firm I had interned for throughout school. Tasked with construction photo documentation, along with many other responsibilities, I soon realized I enjoyed traveling to the projects to photograph the details and spaces much more than drawing them. I was then given the opportunity to take some final, polished project photos for the firm portfolio and competition submissions, which garnered awards and publication. Soon after, I was commissioned for more photography projects until my career path became progressively clearer. And that's the short version of how I realized that my passion for spatial design and capturing beautiful moments would be best applied towards architectural photography.

When not attached to a camera, you'll find me rock climbing, reading at a beach, offering over-the-phone tech support to friends and family, and missing Harry Potter.
